More about APSPR (Association
Professional Surfing Puerto Rico)
By decades the Island of Puerto Rico have been home for many
successful regional and international amateur surfing championships.
It’s reach culture, the warm welcoming to visitors by local people
and high quality waves in offer has been the key for the success of
these events earning the island the so named capital of surfing for
the whole of the Caribbean/Atlantic region. This facts, the
enthusiasm of the local, international surfers and general public
attending the events have gave us the impulse for the creation of
the A.P.S.P.R.
The A.P.S.P.R., (Association of Professional Surfing of Puerto Rico)
have been created not just for the surfing niche of Puerto Rico, was
founded in 2001 to enhance the professionalism of surfing for all
the Caribbean /Atlantic region, from mainland U.S., the Caribbean
Islands, Central, South America and west Europe is well.
At today’s date, with a field of new men’s and women’s superstars of
the sport, the hottest and most recognized surfers of the region
attending the events APSPR have become the governing pro surfing
organization on the region. Base on the Island of Puerto Rico with
an influx of talent and international exposure and recognition on
offer and taking a similar approach to the guys the APSPR added up
the women’s pro division
gathering the elite talents like Lindsey Baldwin, Maria del mar
Gonzales, Connie Arias, Karina Petroni, Lilac Alarado, Quincy Davis,
Kira Sheppard, Ornella Pellizari and many other talented women’s
from the region on a fierce battle for the championship title. APSPR
has already named three champions on the circuit men’s division.
Juan Ashton, 2002/2003; Dylan Graves, 2004, Brian Toth, 2005/2006.
On the women’s side Connie Arias earned the first year women’s
division championships title.
APSPR have implemented the “Heats on Demand” video feature for every
event, where at the completion of each day of surf competition,
you’ll have access to every scoring ride of the event, of every
heat. Through our website www.apspr.net you can scan the draw, and
select which heat you would like to view and much more. Each scoring
ride is shown, along with the points earned for that wave, offering
great entertainment and feedback.
On top of this we have been at the forefront of the LIVE web
streaming from events sites in Puerto Rico, which without delay are
delivered directly to anyone with access to a modem.
The international beer, Corona Extra have seen the return in
investment in the sport and have once again signed on as circuit
naming rights sponsor for 2007-2008 circuit season.
All APSPR events have the same goal and commitment;
To determine the top best surfers, to always provide them with the
higher standards possible at each event, to improve the knowledge
and performance of all competitors, to provide them and all sponsors
with substantial exposure and recognition, to enhance the
professionalism of surfing.
